Every Drop Counts: Rainwater Harvesting to Prevent India’s Water Crisis
India receives abundant rainfall — yet suffers from chronic water shortages due to mismanagement and overdependence on groundwater. Damooga Foundation’s Rainwater Harvesting initiative tackles this paradox by helping individuals and institutions collect, store, and use rainwater efficiently.
The program promotes rooftop harvesting systems that capture rain and direct it into sumps or recharge pits. In schools, panchayat offices, farms, and apartment blocks, these systems are cost-effective, low-maintenance, and high-impact.
Training programs teach local masons and plumbers how to install and repair harvesting setups. Awareness sessions show families how harvested rain can reduce dependence on borewells and ensure water availability through dry seasons.
With climate change making rainfall patterns unpredictable, harvesting what little rain we get is a matter of survival. Every drop saved adds to water security, especially in drought-prone regions. Through this campaign, the Foundation builds a culture of conservation — one rooftop at a time.
